Can AI help me reduce filler words?
Absolutely—but that's one of the easiest things the iSpeak AI Coach does.
The AI Coach automatically tracks filler words such as "um," "uh," "like," and "so," giving you immediate feedback after every practice session so you can see exactly how often they occur and measure your improvement over time. Most people are surprised by how many filler words they use until they see the data.
But reducing filler words is only the beginning. The iSpeak AI Coach also helps you build stronger messages, improve your openings and closings using proven iSpeak models, practice audience-specific scenarios, role-play difficult conversations, and refine your pacing, tone, clarity, body language, and overall delivery. In other words, it doesn't just help you sound smoother—it helps you communicate more effectively.
Why it matters: Filler words are a symptom, not the problem. They often appear when speakers are unsure of their message or thinking ahead to what they'll say next. As your message becomes clearer and you gain confidence through repeated practice, filler words naturally begin to disappear. The AI Coach helps with both the visible habit and the communication skills underneath it.
Practical Tips:
- Record a baseline first. Deliver a 2-minute answer on a familiar topic through the AI Coach before changing anything, so you have a real number to improve against.
- Replace the filler with a pause. The instinct is to fill silence — resist it. A one- or two-second pause reads as deliberate, not uncertain.
- Practice the same content repeatedly. Filler words spike when you're reaching for the next word. Familiarity with your material, built through repeated AI Coach sessions, reduces that reaching.
Practice Exercise:
Record a 2-minute answer to a question in your area of expertise using the iSpeak AI Coach and note your filler word count. Deliver the same answer again, consciously pausing instead of filling, and compare the two counts.
